  • list offshore hazards and comparative risk levels, means of protection and mitigation,
  • describe the impact of waste disposal and oil spills on the natural environment,
  • describe the Company’s organisation for safety and the HSE MS, UK legislation and HASWA
  • describe the key points of the UK PTW system, as used in the North Sea
  •  state the key aspects of Company policy and procedures on fitness, medicines and substance abuse,
  • describe the offshore travel, living and working arrangements, safety committees and
  • safety representatives
  • state actions to take in the event of illness and injury,
  • describe the layout of installations, the use of alarms and methods of communication,
  • state the need for the use of PPE and correct personal clothing,
  • describe the search and rescue organisation for sea rescue,
  • muster and board a survival craft (TEMPSC),
  • don a survival suit and permanent buoyancy lifejacket,
  • enter water from a height,
  • launch and inflate a marine life raft,
  • carry out first aid and understand the effects of hypothermia in a liferaft or TEMPSC,
  • carry out in-water individual and group survival procedures,
  • state the common causes of fire on offshore oil and gas installations,
  • describe fixed fire and gas detection systems,
  • list the actions to take on discovering a fire,
  • operate fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets,
  • carry out self rescue using respiratory protection from areas subject to smoke and heat,
  • carry out self rescue without respiratory protection from areas subject to smoke,
  • describe Company requirements for Offshore Passes and Personal Safety Log books,
  • describe the pre boarding, boarding, in flight and disembarkation procedures,
  • state the types of in-flight emergency and describe the likely ditching and emergency landing scenarios,
  • describe the evacuation process with reference to donning lifejackets, on-board emergency equipment, escape routes, exit points and their operation, survival techniques following evacuation
  • don a transit survival suit and an aviation lifejacket,
  • evacuate from a helicopter following an emergency dry landing,
  • dry evacuation from a helicopter ditched in water to a liferaft,
  • escape, through an exit underwater, from a partially submerged helicopter,
  • escape from a capsized helicopter and inflation of lifejacket.
  • Note : This course is Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation approved and carries UK registration
