Aims |
The
skills and knowledge gained by the participants form attending the
training course will enable them to carry out their work/job in a safe
and responsible manner in accordance with Company’s guidelines and
industry best practices. |

Outcomes |
- List, explain the key HSE requirements specific to Lorry Mounted HIAB operations.
-
Know the COMPANY HSE Policy.

Know how to carry out hazard identifications and assessment of controls needed to execute the work at hand.

Know about the need for Permit To Work required.
-
Basic knowledge of PAKAT or ‘STOP’ card.
-
List, explain and demonstrate in action the skills and competencies
learned form the training specific to the operation of lorry mounted
HIAB cranes.
-
List and explain the principles of lifting dynamics (balancing,
stability) and security for the safe uplifting, moving and placement of
typical Company’s loads
-
With reference to the relevant manufacturers or companies handbook(s)/manual(s):
-
Carry out pre and post operational checks on an overhead traveling crane(s)
-
Undertake routine cleaning and operator inspections on a specified HIAB(s)
-
Explain what action(s) they have to take in the event of a breakdown and or identification of faults on a specified HIAB
-
List and explain the application of, the HIAB load chart and safety
mechanisms where fitted and the principles of safe lifting to determine
the capability of a specific HIAB(s) to undertake specified lifts
-
Demonstrate maneuvering – forward, reverse and in confined areas – into
position, setting up the outriggers and complete pre operational checks
-
Determine, by reference to the manufacturers manual, load charts etc.
the capability of a specific HIAB(s) to undertake specified lifts
-
Identify and list from a selection of five loads:
-
The loads that they can lift
-
The loads that they cannot lift and the actions to be taken to obtain assistance/advice
-
On a specified load(s) using a specified crane(s) under the supervision of the banks man
-
Undertake the necessary pre-lift(s) checks
-
Lift the load(s)
-
Transfer the load(s) to and from the lorry
-
Land the load(s) onto 2 or more of the following pre-determined landing points as appropriate to the class of crane
-
A minimum of four (4) feet higher than the normal ground level
-
At ground level
-
In confined / restricted space
-
Over an obstacle e.g. a fence
-
Demonstrate and explain the safe use of a HIAB(s) power take-off systems and controls
-
Identify in a specified set of circumstances what action(s) must be taken to minimize the effects of dynamic loading
-
Identify and explain the operation of the safety devices fitted on specific crane(s)
-
Identify the environmental effects of a HIAB if any and the actions which can be taken to minimize those effects
