FVG-9 Basic H2S Training – OPITO Approved

To introduce and provide basic knowledge on the formation, properties and hazards of H₂S gas.

Participants will be able to:

Ø Identify the common origins, specific locations, leak points and all potential hazards associated with H₂S gas

Ø Understand the properties, characteristics and behavior of H₂S gas

Ø Understand the symptoms of excess H₂S gas in the human body

Ø Understand the occupational exposure limits to H2S gas

Ø Know about the parts per million (ppm) as a measurement parameter

Ø Understand the factors affecting individual susceptibility to H₂S gas

Ø Familiar the types of detector equipment and respiratory equipment

Ø Action to be taken in the event of an alarm

Ø Understand 7 steps initial emergency response and the role of response team encounter in an H₂S gas

Ø Response an alarm of H₂S

Ø Operate the different types of gas detector and methodology of gas monitoring

Ø Demonstrate and with practice use of escape breathing apparatus a mask and hood including pre-use check

Note: This course is approved by the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation.

Either:

(a) Possesses a valid Offshore medical fitness

(b) Possesses an in-date employer medical certificate

(c) Undergoes an appropriate medical screening by the training establishment
