The Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd recently received an international award from the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) at the first ever OPITO Global Safety and Competence Conference held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on November 25, 2010.
The company, located in Mumong, Kuala Belait was the first training provider worldwide to deliver the Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training course (TBOSIET), which was held between March 9 and 11, 2000.
Since then, 15 additional training centres delivering TBOSIET courses have been introduced across the region in countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Megamas General Manager, Mohd Roger Ainsworth, was pleased to accept the award on behalf of Megamas management and staff. In addition, he was proud to tell his audience that the TBOSIET course available at Megamas is facilitated entirely by local Bruneian staff such as Haji Naweh, Morni and Rusmi, who have been recognised by OPITO's CEO, David Doig, as being of an equal level to any other instructor in the oil and gas training industry worldwide.
The forum was attended by over 250 participants from 35 countries across five continents, which made it especially pleasing for Mohd Roger to represent not only Megamas, but Brunei Darussalam, as an example of professional conduct. He added that the recognition is one that is also shared with the Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sdn Bhd.
The aim of the forum was to discuss ways to improve the standards of safety and competency in the global workforce by recognising that the industry has a moral obligation to make sure its people are extremely well-trained to the highest possible standards.
In this respect, Megamas has gained an outstanding reputation, especially over the last 10 years in its delivery of high quality offshore OPITO training to Brunei Shell Companies and their contractors.
