19 Years LTI Free Celebration

MEGAMAS TRAINING COMPANY Sdn Bhd yesterday celebrated an outstanding achievement of 19 consecutive years without any Loss Time Injury (LTI).

LTI is injury caused by accidents resulting in a loss of time which a lot of government agencies and companies around the world do their best to avoid.

Since 1989, Megamas has provided Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) and Emergency Response trainings for various companies.

Following a management system based on the International Organisation for Standardisation, (ISO) model, it achieved ISO 9002 accreditation in 1997 and continually seek to improve helping contractors of Shell and Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) achieve a safe office.

Besides providing training to the oil and gas industry, Megamas have also provided the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Communications, Public Works Department and Royal Brunei Airlines with HSE trainings.

Hotels as well as restaurants are also catching on the trend to keep their establishments clean and safe by approaching Megamas which has more than 150 courses to provide.

Mohd Roger Ainsworth, Managing Director of the company started his opening speech in a typical Megamas fashion, by pointing to the safety exits in the unlikely event of a fire.

"Megamas was established in response to the 'Pipher Alpha' disaster on a production platform in the North Sea and since then we've come a long way to be one of the leading training centres in the region."

"I would like to sincerely thank BSP and Brunei LNG's senior managers and HSE department for giving the opportunity to develop a Bruneian company into an internationally recognised training centre," Mohd Roger said.

The guest of honour,Hj Mohd Soffian Hj Omar, head of HSE at (BSP), was present to award a safety plaque to Hjh Khadijah Hj Mohamed, Managing Director of Megamas.

"We are glad to have Megamas assist us in promoting and maintaining safety and I wish them all the best on their journey to 20 years without any LTI," said Hj Mohd Soffian.

In an interview, Mohd Roger said that the reason why they were able to accomplish this was due to the commitment of their directors and senior managers and feedback from overseas correspondence which helped them improve.

"Another achievement by the company is our manpower which comprises of 90 per cent locals. Many senior instructors with the company are Brunei citizens and they've trained overseas to gain more exposure and better experience and become better leaders," he said.

"Most of our locals have been with us for more than 10 years and with their help we hope to develop new courses with an upgraded training centre," added Mohd Roger.

He also lauded the Managing Director for her efforts to develop Brunei and its local workforce.

Megamas' training has also attracted employees from Singapore, Australia, Korea, Malaysia and the United Kingdom, to name a few.

The training company is also one of the few companies conducting military training in a civilian setting worldwide.
