Last week a group of fifteen Senior Staff from DST Sdn Bhd attended the IOSH Managing Safely Course. The course was run by Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd. The course begins by taking participants through the reasons for managing health and safety and then progresses to provide participants with the necessary techniques to manage safety in their work environment.    

Topics covered include; Assessing risks, Controlling risks, Understanding your responsibilities (law), Identifying hazards, Investigating accidents and incidents, Measuring performance, Protecting our environment. After the course the participants took an exam to test their understanding of the course materials.  

Upon successful completion of their project they will be awarded the internationally recognised “IOSH Managing Safely” certificate. The course was developed by the Institute of Occupational Health and Safety in the UK but has widespread application in Brunei. The principles of managing health and safety apply equally anywhere in the world. Course leader, Neil from Megamas said “it was encouraging to see so many senior staff on the course. It widely known that companies with the best safety performance always have strong leadership and commitment from the top”.
