In the year of its 20th Anniversary, and one of the world’s leading training providers, Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd, based in Kuala Belait, has yet achieved another commendable milestone having today reached 90% of all its staff being employed as local Bruneian citizens.

For many years, the Management of Megamas has had a strong Bruneisation policy, which has also encouraged the locals to gain more skills, expertise and knowledge in the workplace, and supported by overseas assignments to enhance their training.

To-day, all offshore training delivered to the OPITO International Standard for Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sdn Bhd and their contractors is delivered by local Bruneian citizens. This is a truly outstanding achievement by Megamas, and one, which the Managing Director, Hjh Khadijah Mohamed, is very proud.



She says “Megamas is a family and many of our staff have been together with us for the duration, over 15 years, through the hard times, but always have stayed loyal to the principles by which the business has been managed, and the “Visions” for the future”.

This is even more remarkable when one reflects on the feedback regarding the quality delivered for these courses from BSP Management, BLNG, MINDEF, and the contractor community both within Brunei and S-E Asia.   

Mr David Doig (CEO, OPITO) has commented that the Senior Instructors at Megamas, such as Hj Naweh, Morni Karim, Rusmi Merzuki to name a few are quote “every bit as good and equal to any instructors in the business anywhere in the world”, and the former CEO for Shell EPA said that “the offshore training at Megamas delivered by locals was better than the one received in the North sea”.

In addition, the HSE courses and consultancy services have expanded with courses for the Front Line Worksite Supervisor, HSE CoRe Solutions, and developing the locals to participate in surveillance and intervention for some of BSP’s major projects.   These courses are being provided also to BLNG and Government departments.  Megamas also plans to send their local instructors to Qatar and Oman to conduct similar courses in the near future.

In parallel with the Bruneisation, Megamas has also achieved “19 Years LTI Free” safety performance which is simply unequalled by any training provider in the world, and, the Directors have also re-invested in their excellent facilities to create a centre which is totally integrated, and arguably comparable with any training centre worldwide.

Megamas has set records at every level in the business during this 20 years, 1st training provider to deliver Tropical BOSIET worldwide, 1st training provider to conduct a carbon foot printing study, defensive driving to the Shell Global Standards, and, as a result,  all this effort and commitment has helped to put HSE in Brunei Darussalam, together with the crucial support from BSP and BLNG and all their contractors, in the top position in S-E Asia, a pocket of HSE excellence in Kuala Belait and Seria of a quality better than anywhere else in the Region, and this is supported by HSE performance statistics for, BSP, BLNG, and all their contractors.
