Another IOSH Managing Safely in Bandar
Another successful IOSH Managing Safely course was run at Megamas (bandar) during 29 November to 03 December 2010 for 15 participants from a variety of companies. Having taken their exam this morning the participants are required to carry out a risk assessment at their workplace and submit it. Well done everybody!

Revised curriculum for driving instructors to be discussed this week
MEGAMAS Training Company will outline the revised driving curriculum to the Land Transport Department and hold discussions with driving instructors on the new programme on Saturday.

At least four instructors, including a consultant from a neighbouring country, will assess and train driving school instructors in a course from January to March next year, said Mohd Ramshawadin Kamaluddin, Megamas lead driving instructor.

Megamas holds 17TH NEBOSH course
Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd, based in Mumong, Kuala Belait recently conducted the 17th NEBOSH International General Certificate Course from November 22 to December 02, 2010.

This course, a globally recognised health and safety qualification, is intended for companies and individuals wishing to meet the international standards with regards to Health, Safety & Environment as it based on the International Labour Standards (ILO) codes of practice.

Megamas receives OPITO award
The Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd recently received an international award from the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation (OPITO) at the first ever OPITO Global Safety and Competence Conference held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on November 25, 2010.


Megamas Welcomes ISB Business Studies Students
Last week a large group of ISB students visited Megamas to gain a real world insight into the complexities of running a business. The Y12/Y13 students were given information about the company and from this they had to produce a SWOT and PEST analysis. The students then had to make a presentation to Megamas management with their findings.

SEF team welcome major boost

Ministry to upgrade driving standards
THE Ministry of Communications has appointed Megamas Training Co to assist in the ministry's plans of upgrading the standards of driving in Brunei, by enhancing the driving education curriculum.

Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications Dato Paduka Hj Alaihuddin Pehin Orang Kaya DiGadong Seri Lela Dato Seri Utama Hj Mohamad Taha (pic) said in a telephone interview with The Brunei Times that this improvement would be through a series of certified programmes conducted by Megamas.

MEGAMAS Training Company Sdn Bhd held a major fire drill on Wednesday, led by the company's Deputy QHSE Manager, Dk Dewi Ratna Eidayu Pg Tejuddin.

Government sectors also took part in the fire drill, among which were the Fire and Rescue Department, Suri Seri Begawan Hospital and the Royal Brunei Traffic Police.

A GROUP of the Royal Malaysian Air Forces (TUDM) personnel recently underwent a three-day Sea Survival training at Megamas.

They include Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (Huet), Emergency Breathing System (EBS) and Underwater Patient Extraction (Upet).

MEGAMAS Training Company Sdn Bhd has been recognised as the UK's National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (Nebosh) accredited training centre.

Annually, over 30,000 people worldwide take the Nebosh qualification.

Ports Department Personnel Undergo Maritime Training
Fifteen personnel from the Ports Department Brunei recently attended a five-day course on "Proficiency. Survival Craft and Rescue Boat other than Fast Rescue Boat (PSC) Training" at Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd in Mumong.

Charity kayak expedition collects donation for Pakistan Flood Relief Fund
The four-day, 143-kilometre Charity kayak expedition from Megamas Jetty Sungai Belait ended yesterday around 3pm at the Mangrove Paradise Resort, Sungai Belukut.

The expedition was completed by a local, Mohd V Elleys bin Abdullah and a Filipino, Carlito Sameon Cruz - both employees of Megamas Sdn bhd - and two other kayakers from CARE Association Brunei.

Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd, based in Mumong, Kuala Belait, recently conducted its 16th NEBOSH International General Certificate course, which took place between June 21 and July 2.

The 10-day course is a globally recognised health and safety qualification that is intended for companies or individuals who fully intend to reach an international standard with regards to health, safety and environment in their workplace.

Better trainers lead to good drivers and fewer accidents
Amid the rise in number of road traffic accidents last year and no decline in serious and minor injury figures over the last three years, the Minister of Communications yesterday underlined the importance of training the drivers, besides providing infrastructure, road signs and organising road safety campaigns.

Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Hj Awg Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong said the Land Transport Department not only stresses on the need for vehicles to abide by the safety criteria but also the drivers should meet certain criteria on safety.

Megamas obtains MIST OPITO approval

Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd based in Kuala Belait has obtained another OPITO approval for the Minimum Industry Safety and Training or MIST, according to a press release.
OPITO began implementing MIST in the UK last April and has had 35,000 people complete the training.

OPITO plans to introduce the concept in 30 countries.


Megamas bleeds for good cause
Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd recently conducted a blood donation drive within the Megamas facilities, Kuala Belait. A large part of Megamas’s training facilities are designed to accommodate emergency procedures and its staff wanted to show its commitment to the community by contributing to the local blood bank.

MEGAMAS achieves excellent safety performance“20 Years LTI Free”
This week Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd, based in Mumong, Kuala Belait hosted a presentation ceremony to celebrate the excellent safety performance of "20 Years Loss Time Injury (LTI) Free”, that is nobody has been seriously injured, from their first contract awarded on 14 March 1990. 

The safety plaque highlighting this achievement was presented by Dr Grahaeme Henderson (BSP Managing Director) to Hjh Khadijah Mohamed (Megamas Managing Director).
