Aims

This introductory safety training programme is designed to introduce the fundamental safety elements of the offshore oil & gas industry to new starts, giving an appreciation of the potential hazards and controls that might be encountered by personnel offshore. Each unit has been designed to focus the delegates’ attention on their personal responsibility for safety thus influencing their behaviour and attitude towards their co-workers, the installation and the environment.

Outcomes

During the introductory safety training programme candidates will gain an awareness of the variety of tasks and the safety risks to be found on offshore installations. They will be required to demonstrate a sufficient level of knowledge and understanding of the following key areas:

Module 1 Introduction to the hazardous offshore environment
Module 2 Working safely including safety observation systems
Module 3 Understanding the risk assessment process
Module 4 Tasks that require permit to work
Module 5 Personal responsibility in maintaining asset integrity
Module 6 Using manual handling techniques everyday
Module 7 Controlling the use of hazardous substabces offshore
Module 8 Knowledge and practices of working at height
Module 9 Being aware of mechanical lifting activities

Location and Duration

The duration of the course is 2-days The course is delivered at Megamas Training Company Sdn. Bhd., in Mumong/Kuala Balai, Kuala Belait. And or at clients venue as per request.

Pre-Requisite

There is no pre requisite however it is expected that this programme will be taken after the OPITO approved BOSIET course so training providers can build on the material gained previously. However, if this is not the case then the BOSIET course will be required prior to travelling offshore and the delegate should expect a small proportion of repeat information.

There are no specific medical requirements, although personnel must have a currentoffshore medical certificate before being allowed to work offshore.

Aims

To provide essential knowledge and practical skill to personnel working in the UK Offshore Industry.

Content

Participants will be able to:
describe offshore oil and gas activities and the various types of
offshore installation,
list offshore hazards and comparative risk levels, means of protection and mitigation,
describe the impact of waste disposal and oil spills on the natural environment,
describe the Company’s organisation for safety and the HSE MS, UK legislation and HASWA
describe the key points of the UK PTW system, as used in the North Sea
state the key aspects of Company policy and procedures on fitness, medicines and substance abuse,
describe the offshore travel, living and working arrangements, safety committees and
safety representatives
state actions to take in the event of illness and injury,
describe the layout of installations, the use of alarms and methods of communication,
state the need for the use of PPE and correct personal clothing,
describe the search and rescue organisation for sea rescue,
muster and board a survival craft (TEMPSC),
don a survival suit and permanent buoyancy lifejacket,
enter water from a height,
launch and inflate a marine life raft,
carry out first aid and understand the effects of hypothermia in a liferaft or TEMPSC,
carry out in-water individual and group survival procedures,
state the common causes of fire on offshore oil and gas installations,
describe fixed fire and gas detection systems,
list the actions to take on discovering a fire,
operate fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets,
carry out self rescue using respiratory protection from areas subject to smoke and heat,
carry out self rescue without respiratory protection from areas subject to smoke,
describe Company requirements for Offshore Passes and Personal Safety Log books,
describe the pre boarding, boarding, in flight and disembarkation procedures,
state the types of in-flight emergency and describe the likely ditching and emergency landing scenarios,
describe the evacuation process with reference to donning lifejackets, on-board emergency equipment, escape routes, exit points and their operation, survival techniques following evacuation
Donning a survival suit, aviation life jacket and emergency breathing system equipment
Verifying the integrity of the emergency breathing system equipment
Carrying out re-breathing actions using emergency breathing system equipment
Carrying out breathing actions in a pool environment utilizing personal air ( must experience positive and negative pressure created by body orientation in the water)
Deploying EBS equipment, operating a push out window and carrying out a dry evacuation via a nominated emergency exit to a heliraft from a helicopter ditched in water.
Assisting others where possible and carrying out vital and secondary actions
Escape, through a window opening which is underwater, partially submerged helicopter (deploying and operating EBS equipment but without operating a push window)
Escape, through a window opening which is underwater from a partially submerged helicopter (deploying and operating EBS equipment and operating a push out window)
Escape, through a window opening which is underwater, from a capsized helicopter (deploying EBS equipment on a surface prior to capsize and operating a push out window), inflating a lifejacket and carrying out in water procedures (including individual and group survival techniques)

Note : This course is Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation approved and carries UK registration

OFF-5 Tropical FOET Including Travel Safely By Boat and Tropical EBS

Aims

To give an opportunity to practice and demonstrate skills which is not possible to practice offshore during drills, exercises and offshore training.

Contents

Delegates will demonstrate practically:

Helicopter Safety & Escape including (Tropical) EBS
• Donning of an aviation lifejacket and Emergency Breathing System
• Operation and use of Emergency Breathing System (EBS) during pool exercise
• Actions in preparation for a helicopter ditching
• Action following a controlled ditching on water (including deployment of EBS and operating of a push out window on instruction from aircrew)
Actions following a partial submersion of an aircraft:
• Without deploying EBS equipment or operation of a push out window
• Including deployment of EBS equipment but without operation of a push out window
• Including deployment of EBS equipment and operation of a push out window
Actions following an aircraft capsize:
• Without deploying EBS equipment or operation of a push out window
• Including deployment of EBS equipment but without operation of a push out window
• Including deployment of EBS equipment and operation of a push out window
• Inflating a lifejacket and carrying out in-water procedures (including individual and group survival techniques)
• Boarding of a heliraft from the water
• Being rescued by one of the recognised methods available offshore

Note: This course is approved by the Offshore Petroleum Industry Training Organisation, UK.

Aims

This programme is designed to refresh designated personnel to handle helicopter emergency scenarios in fire and own fire situation.

Content

Participants will be able to:

Demonstrate knowledge of Offshore Fire/Emergency Response arrangements
Demonstrate knowledge of the role of the Emergency Response Helideck Team Member
Consider what actions they need to take prior to entry and whilst gaining access to helicopters.
The best working practices to be used in the incident area.
Understand and practice rescue procedures and techniques.
Extract and handle of casualties.
Select and operate portable fire fighting and rescue equipment.
Use fixed fire fighting equipment.
Understand and practice the operation, donning and wearer checks of self contained breathing apparatus.
