Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd based in Kuala Belait has obtained another OPITO approval for the Minimum Industry Safety and Training or MIST, according to a press release.
OPITO began implementing MIST in the UK last April and has had 35,000 people complete the training.

OPITO plans to introduce the concept in 30 countries.

Megamas is the first training provider in Southeast Asia to obtain MIST OPITO approval.

OPITO developed MIST to train every offshore worker to the same standards and apply them across the oil and gas industry.

David Doig (Chief CEO of OPITO) believes that MIST will demonstrate the industry’s commitment to make the offshore environment safer to work in.

In the UK, MIST is a pre-requisite for the BOSIET/FOET courses.

The course focuses on the student’s weaknesses, what is lacking and saving time by not re-teaching what the student already knows. On completion, the student’s certification, as with all other OPITO courses, is logged into OPITO’s database, eliminating the opportunity for paper forgeries.

According to Megamas General Manager, Mohd Roger Ainsworth, by obtaining MIST OPITO approval, Megamas has shown its continued commitment to provide international standards for the offshore worker.

Mohd Roger also highlighted that, following the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico that killed 11 during an explosion last month, it has re-emphasised the need for strong safety training for workers in the offshore environment.
