Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd based in Mumong, Kuala Belait, recently held a function at their facilities in Kuala Belait to recognise the achievement of 14 instructor local Bruneian staff receiving the OPITO Assessor Certificates.

The staff included Dzarfan Nikman, Joseph De Guzman Quezon, Kartina Haworth, Md Rufian Hj Abd Rahman, Hj Mohamad Sukri Hj Suhaili, Pg Mohd Azman Pg Tajuddin, Abang Jaludin Abang Md Noor, Michael Leonard Stringer, Mohd Massri Abdullah, Mohd Arif Chia Abdullah, Mas Moorzan Jawawi, Mohd Qistishah Hj Mohd Shah, Zul Izzi Salim and Poobathy Dhetchanan.

Assessors need to acquire certain skills and expertise in order to be Competent Assessors. To meet these requirements OPITO developed the Competence Assessor Standard, and then invited training organisations to deliver the relevant training.

Megamas has worked closely with JTN, to deliver the OPITO Competence Assessor Award. JTN is based in Miri, and developed the relevant training material, which was then reviewed and accepted by OPITO.

Assessors visit personnel in their place of work to see what they can do and whether their work meets national occupational standards or a particular skill. An assessor will first identify what a candidate knows and is able to do. From there they can then pinpoint the knowledge and skills the candidate needs to meet the organisation requirements. Then they will produce an individual action plan and will monitor the candidate’s progress against the plan.

According to Megamas General Manager (Mohd Roger Ainsworth), “As global business competition shifts from efficiency to innovation and from enlargement of scale to creation of value, management needs to be orientated toward the strategic use of human resources. Under these circumstances, the ability of companies to effectively carry out competency based human resources management is becoming more and more crucial for their survival. Hence the need for Competence Assessors”.
