Megamas Training Company and the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly provide a variety of maritime courses at Megamas.

General Manager Michael Stringer @ Mohd Firdaus Eswandi signed on behalf of Megamas, while IBTE was represented by its Acting Chief Executive Officer Dr Haji Mohd Zamri bin Haji Sabli during the signing at Megamas Training Company.

Megamas Deputy General Manager Haji Mahmud bin Haji Idris, Acting Principal of Satellite Campus Dr Suhaimi bin Haji Abdul Wahab as well as officers from Megamas, IBTE and the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (MPABD) attended.

Michael Stringer @ Mohd Firdaus Eswandi explained how Megamas and IBTE have for over 18 years jointly collaborated to offer training to young Bruneians eyeing a career in the maritime industry.

“It brings me great pride to say that during this period, we have trained over 1,600 Bruneians with this goal in mind,” he said.

Megamas will also work closely with IBTE and MPABD to develop additional courses to add to this programme, to help with the continuous development of Bruneian seafarers.

The IBTE members were taken on a tour to observe the activities conducted at the centre.

The maritime courses includes the STCW2010 Basic Training Manila Amendments, Post Sea Training: Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (Other than Fast Rescue Boats – PSC), Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (DSD), and Efficient Deckhand Trainings to disseminate key knowledge and training for the local workforce.
