The Empire Hotel & Country Club staff recently completed a training on how to develop a positive safety culture within the organisation.

EmpireThe training, which also discussed why the key elements of an ‘informed culture’, ‘reporting culture’ and ‘just culture’ must work together in harmony, was conducted by Mohd Roger Ainsworth, General Manager, Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd.

Mohd Roger, who has conducted similar courses for clients in both Brunei Darussalam and Singapore, highlighted that a positive ‘safety culture’ enables organisations to achieve higher standards of safety. However, it is important to understand that a ‘safety culture’ cannot be achieved quickly, as it is an evolutionary process, he added.

During the training, Mohd Roger also touched on the need to understand human behaviour, the difference between errors and violations, and subsequently, recognition and reward versus consequence management, including the importance of establishing zero tolerance for reckless violations.
