Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd yesterday celebrated the 20,000th participant (Wong Jun Yew, SMR/331) on the OPITO TBOSIET/TFOET offshore courses since the very 1st course held anywhere in the world.

The 1st OPITO TBOSIET course was held at Megamas on 9/10/11 March 2000 in the presence of HM The Sultan of Brunei Darussalam.

In March 2000, Megamas, together with BSP, designed and implemented the Tropical BOSIET OPITO COURSE for offshore workers in warm waters.  It was endorsed by OPITO as a fit for purpose standard offering training to international standards different to the UK cold water standard.  It has been adopted today in over 20 countries worldwide, and literally 100,000’s participants have been trained from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, Qatar, Philippines to the USA and Gulf of Mexico.  It has made a substantial impact in providing safe training for offshore workers in the oil/gas industry.

Hjh Khadijah Mohamed, Managing Director commented that “We have completed all these courses for nearly 12 years without harming anyone, in a safe environment, and, except for the first 2 years, all have been conducted by local Bruneian instructors. Today all offshore courses at Megamas are delivered by local Bruneian staff”.

During this period, Megamas has also maintained an excellent safety record including “21 Years LTI Free” and a safety performance award from the British Safety Council for the 7th consecutive year 2004-2010.

The Group Chief Executive of OPITO, Mr. David Doig, has remarked that “the contribution made by Megamas in Safety has been immense in the period since 2000, and has unquestionably saved the lives of offshore workers, and also commented that the burning passion of Megamas to do “things” the right way had heavily influenced his work and drive to take OPITO forward into the international market place”.

Hjh Khadijah further added that “none of this would have been possible without the close co-operation, partnership and support of BSP Management and the HSE Department over the years, for which, she added that she was extremely grateful. We are all at Megamas delighted this day has finally arrived, and that we should celebrate together this success story over nearly 12 years.  It has been a truly remarkable journey, but together, we have set the standard for others to follow not only in the Region but worldwide”.
