Megamas yesterday celebrated the prestigious safety performance milestone of “21 Years Lost Time Injury (LTI) Free” and “Four Years Total Recordable Cases (TRC) Free”, a press release stated.

To honour this occasion, Ken Marnoch, the Managing Director of Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) Company Sdn Bhd presented a special safety plaque to Hjh Khadijah Mohamed, the Managing Director of Megamas.

The General Manager, Roger Ainsworth, added that Megamas has also received for six consecutive years an international safety award from the British Safety Council.

Mr Roger went on to comment that Megamas have achieved many significant milestones over the last 10 years such as worldwide recognition from the oil and gas industry and OPITO in the UK for the development of the Tropical BOSIET Standard for tropical waters; first training provider worldwide to have undertaken a Carbon Foot Printing Study to better understand its CO2 emissions and environmental impacts and the only Shell recognised training provider in S-E Asia to conduct Defensive Driving courses to meet with the Shell Global Standards.

“Despite this recognition, much of which, has been received from international organisations, the one which truly stands out for us has been our ability to recruit, train and develop local Bruneian citizens. Megamas has a total workforce of over 60, and 85% are local Bruneian citizens, many, of whom, have remained loyal to the company for over 10 years.

“It has been a delight and really an exciting and rewarding experience to see the development of our young Bruneian staff over the years, mature and become highly-skilled instructors delivering quality courses, and being recognised by the oil and gas industry,” said Hjh Khadijah Mohamed.

Ken Marnoch told the audience that he enjoyed his first week in Brunei and working as the MD for BSP by attending a four-day training course at Megamas on the TBOSIET and IMS-six courses had, in a small way, contributed to the safety statistics.

He was very appreciative that over 21 years, approximately 100,000 participants have been trained to a high standard in a safe and secure environment, and congratulated Megamas in creating the atmosphere for their staff, to start each day safely, which has led to the outstanding safety record.

He went on to acknowledge that Megamas HSE performance has been one of the foundations, which has contributed to BSP’s excellent safety performance in the last six years or more, and many of the students today attending courses at Megamas are the children of the participants who came here 20 years ago.
