MEGAMAS Training Company Sdn Bhd, based in Kuala Belait, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary of delivering the first-ever OPITO Tropical BOSIET course worldwide from March 9 to 11, 2000.

The UK Basic Offshore Safety Induction Emergency Training (BOSIET) course was adapted by Megamas to be fit-for-purpose for warm waters, and was subsequently approved by OPITO, the UK Regulatory Authority for offshore survival training.

In the beginning, it was known as the Warm Water Standard, but later was replaced as the Tropical Standard, and hence it became famously known as the TBOSIET.

OPITO regularly audits training providers worldwide to ensure that the standards for the course are rigorously adhered to.

In 2011, Megamas was voted by OPITO in Abu Dhabi, to be in the top three training providers worldwide delivering OPITO TBOSIET and other offshore courses.

Since the course’s inauguration back in March 2000, hundreds of thousands of offshore participants have been trained in many different countries. To date, there are 23 countries throughout the world delivering the OPITO TBOSIET course, and the first one was delivered at Megamas in Brunei Darussalam.

There are now 61 training providers worldwide delivering the course including 33 in Asia Pacific, 20 in the Middle East and Africa, and eight in the Americas.

The General Manager of Megamas, Mohd Roger Ainsworth said, “It has been shown that in Brunei Darussalam, we can achieve the highest standards of HSE and offshore training and all of us in Megamas are proud that Brunei was the first country in the world to deliver the OPITO TBOSIET course.”

Mohd Roger added, “It has been especially pleasing that today the course is delivered entirely by local Bruneians, including the first female instructor.”
