A two day Health and Safety training course was held by Megamas at DST headquarters on the Tungku link Road. The overall aim of the course sought to provide participants with an understanding of Health and Safety together with useful skills that can be applied in their respective departments. On the first day of the course, participants learned about the importance of managing Health and Safety and gained knowledge about ways to conduct a risk assessment and how to develop safe systems of work. The importance of top level management commitment to health and safety was highlighted, especially to the proper implementation of the Health and Safety Management System. It was stressed that if Management is seen to be committed to improving safety performance, from top to bottom, then the message strikes home to the workers and is acted upon at site level.

The course encouraged supervisors to be aware of their health and safety responsibilities and the importance to communicate useful health and safety information to staff, check understanding, stimulate and respond positively to feedback on health and safety issues.

The requirements of the new Health and Safety legislation in Brunei was also described.

The second day focussed on incident investigation skills and course participants learned the importance of root cause analysis.

In addition to DST, Megamas conducts H&S training and consultancy services to numerous companies based in Bandar from their office in Kiulap.
