Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd based in Mumong, Kuala Belait, recently was awarded OPITO approval for Offshore Helideck Fire Team Member (OHFTM) and Offshore Helicopter Landing Officer (OHLO).

Both these courses are very important for participants working and travelling offshore.

According to Megamas General Manager (Mohd Roger Ainsworth), all the work done to develop both courses and subsequent arrangements for desktop audits and practicals carried out in Megamas was carried out and successfully completed by our Bruneian local staff (Hj Naweh Hj Abdul Rahman, Morni Karim and Hjh Norlelah Hj Kechi).

All helicopters landing on, or taking off from an offshore installation must be under the control of the Helicopter Landing Officer (HLO). All personnel are under the control of and must obey the instructions of the Helicopter Landing Officer until clear of the helideck.

All helidecks must be provided with the necessary equipment to handle an incident. Foam monitors, hand lines and fire extinguishers are installed and maintained on all helidecks for this purpose. Breathing apparatus is available near at hand and crash boxes with minimum quantities and specified types of equipment are positioned at the edge of the helideck ready in case of an emergency. At all times during helicopter operation trained personnel wearing the correct clothing man the various items of equipment.

An important requirement for most oil and gas companies is for the training provider to obtain and maintain accreditation for the training with an internationally recognised accrediting organisation.

With these new additional OPITO approval, Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd is one of only 2 training providers in S-E Asia holding these qualifications, and the only one in the Region.

Megamas was the 1st training provider in the world obtain to carry out the OPITO Tropical TBOSIET in March 2000. Today, this course is delivered worldwide in over 20 countries where there is warm waters.
