TWO successful Brunei based companies were rewarded with trophies yesterday during the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability (ACES) Awards at the InterContinental Singapore.

The award, organised by MORS Group, was aimed at recognising the services and achievements of businesses in Asia, of which 110 were nominated in various categories.

The categories include the Top Green Companies in Asia, Top Community Care Companies in Asia, Top Companies to Work For in Asia, Top Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Advocates in Asia Top Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Asia, and the Top Outstanding Leaders in Asia.

The categories also include the Green Company of the Year, Community Care Company of the year, Best Company to Work for of the Year, Most Socially Responsible Company of the Year, Industry Champion of the year, Young Entrepreneur of the year, Woman Entrepreneur and the Entrepreneur of the year.

Speaking to The Brunei Times on the sidelines of the event, Roger Ainsworth, the General Manager of Megamas Training Company said that the award was a motivation for Megamas to further improve for the sultanate.

“Receiving the award for Brunei is great, we hope to win more, it further motivates us and the staff to continue to improve, we will always prepare ourselves for challenges and strive for the best,” said the winner of the Industry Champion of the Year Award.

The general manager said that the award reflects the hard work of employees under Megamas.

“Ninety per cent of the 91 staffs are Bruneian, this award is for them, we all share in the success,” he said.

In a separate interview, one of the Top Outstanding Leaders award recipient, Francis Lau Choo Yew, who is the Managing Director of Lau Choo Yew (LCY) Development Sdn Bhd, said that the award is a motivation to further expand the construction company in various countries. He said that his company’s success was for the sultanate as he wishes to help Bruneians with employment.

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive of MORS Group, Shanggari Balakrishnan said that Brunei has shown development in business, in which she said it is good for the country and Asia’s development.

“Entrepreneurship and businesses are important because they create job opportunities, while steadying the economy of the country,” she said.
