THE Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd, based in Kuala Belait, has achieved a ‘25 Years LTI Free’ milestone for its outstanding safety performance – a record unequalled by any other training provider in Southeast Asia.

Over the years, Megamas has developed from a local HSE provider into one of the region’s leading training institutes.

Last year Megamas delivered over 100 different HSE, defensive driving, materials handling, and offshore courses.

Megamas has also during these years worked hard on its corporate social responsibility to give back to the local community by participating in road safety campaigns, Time Out’s for safety with the oil and gas community, Open Days for schoolchildren, demonstrations at schools, and talks at Career Days.

Megamas has also provided work attachment programmes for graduates to get more understanding of HSE, and offer recommendations wherever possible, in order to cascade career paths in HSE.

According to Mohd Roger, Megamas General Manager, “It’s no coincidence that workplaces with the lowest accident rates employ more people with health and safety qualifications.

“It is important to focus on the quality, motivation and experience of the frontline worksite supervisors, and if possible at the same time, you have good leadership and commitment from the management then most problems can be satisfactorily resolved between these two levels.

“It’s very pleasing to me that these achievements have been realised with a staff comprising 85 per cent local Bruneians of which 25 per cent have remained loyal to the company for more than 10 years.

“Hajah Khadijah Mohamed, Megamas Managing Director, must take the bulk of the praise for creating a ‘family’, in which everybody, regardless of their position, is equally important to the success of the company.”

“We have worked hard on the recruitment, training and development of Bruneians with regard to our LBD Policy over many years, which has seen Megamas as a leading and outstanding example of what can be achieved by local Bruneians.”
