MEGAMAS Training Company Sdn Bhd and the Brunei National Road Safety Council (MKKJR), held the ‘Tell Everyone’ Safety Outreach Programme 2019 for the students and staff members of the Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE) Jefri Bolkiah Campus (JBC), Kuala Belait yesterday.

The road safety awareness campaign highlighted the seven key road safety messages: speed, seatbelt, not to use mobile phones while driving, not to drive under the influence (DUI), wearing helmet and /or proper attire while riding, and awareness of vulnerable road users such as pedestrians, school children, joggers and cyclists, as well as periodically checking tyre condition.

Several booths by Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP), Megamas, MKKJR and Brunei Shell Marketing Sdn Bhd were set up at the multi-purpose hall and the surrounding area of the campus.

The event began with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah, followed by a welcoming remark by IBTE Satellite Campus Principal Norjemee bin Jenek.

He hoped that the students will learn more about the importance of road safety and adopt a safety mindset.

Deputy General Manager of Megamas Haji Mahmud bin Haji Idris noted that most road accidents occur due to speeding, tailgating, and usage of mobile phones while driving.

“With the campaign, we wanted to help spread the message of the importance of road safety in hopes of creating a positive driving attitude,” he concluded.

The event proceeded with briefings on road safety measures.

It is hoped that the awareness will reduce road accidents and ensure that youth are aware of traffic rule violations and embrace positive attitude and commitment towards road safety. BSP, Megamas and the MKKJRwill take part in the 5th United Nations (UN) Global Road Safety Week 2019 Leadership for Road Safety on May 6-12.
