THE Youth Development Centre of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports has introduced the youth development programme to youths and various development industries in line with ‘Brunei Vision 2035’. The programme is facilitated by Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd that specialises in HSE training and consultancy services.

Readymix Concrete (B) Sdn Bhd supports the youth development programme by hiring licensed heavy vehicle drivers who have graduated from the training scheme.

Within its six batches of training from 2013 to 2016, Readymix Concrete has participated twice in the training scheme and has hired five licensed drivers, and is overseeing its third intake this year.

The ages of the youths range between 21 and 40. Bus, rigid truck and articulated vehicles are used in the training that follows the high bar required by the oil and gas industry. Trainees go through two months of intensive industrial HSE training, learning skills and knowledge such as HSE, first aid, lorry mounted crane, commercial bus driver, defensive driving, rigging slinging and driving heavy vehicle.

This includes obtaining driving licences of Class 2, 4, 5, 6 and 11 and another three months of work placement in related companies before completing the training.
