Megamas Training Company Sdn Bhd based in Mumong, Kuala Belait, recently received the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) International Diploma for the training and testing programme operated by Megamas in Car, Heavy Good Vehicle, Bus, 4×4 Occupational Training and Basic Security Driving.

RoSPA is a registered charity and have been at the heart of accident prevention in the UK and around the world for almost 100 years.

RoSPA had two invigilators on Megamas site for two weeks to assess the training provided by Megamas to its students and assess the ability of their instructors to drive to the RoSPA advanced standard of Silver or Gold.

The assessment was divided into categories from driving skills, classroom presentation, car practical driving test, car instructional ability results, and delivery of practical training sessions for company clients. In each category, Megamas achieved the highest mark, Level 5, which represents an “excellent” criteria. In addition, all 3 Megamas instructors (Mohamad Roshawadin Bin Kamaluddin, Shuwarde Bin Haji Ismail, and Koo Ching Ping) attending the RoSPA International Diploma Course and RoSPA Diploma Tests received a “Distinction” pass. In addition, all 3 assistant instructors (Muhammad Nassiruddin Bin Abdullah Jandi, Ranold Bin Ramli, and Hilmy Bin Haji Othman) attending the Assessor Course and RoSPA Advanced Tests for Assessors received the “Gold” Award.

According to the RoSPA Senior Invigilator, Mr Alan Timms, “the driving instructors at Megamas have worked hard to establish high standards and are deserving of additional praise for the skill and professionalism shown throughout the course. They kept an open minded approach and their thirst for knowledge and willingness to try new ideas will enable them to become first class trainers”.

During the last week, the courses were also supported by Mr John van Leeuwen, Senior Driving Instructor, Drive Safe, Australia, who has been a call-off instructor at Megamas for 11 years from 2002, and instrumental in the development of the local Bruneian staff involved in the defensive driving training, and with whom, Megamas received approval to deliver the courses to the Shell Global Standard many years ago.

Hjh Khadijah Mohamed (Megamas Managing Director) commented that “we are very pleased to receive this prestigious award, the only provider in Borneo, and especially proud that all the instructors and assistant instructors for the RoSPA accreditation are local Bruneians, which is a testament to Megamas commitment over many years to the development of local staff which has been so successful throughout the company”.

Megamas General Manager (Mohd Roger Ainsworth) explained “that the decision to bring in RoSPA was that although our existing defensive driving training programme was already to a high standard, we felt that something else was needed to bring them to life and work even better, and that something was to aspire to achieve accreditation by the internationally-recognised UK and worldwide body in RoSPA.
Most importantly, road accidents cause loss and suffering to the victims and their loved ones, employers and society as a whole.
We hope that this accreditation to provide professional levels of defensive driving training, it will help to promote better safety and the prevention of accidents on the roads”.
